DESCRIPTION:Offshore Safety at Sea \nThis Course is for\nCrew members of offshore races\, long-distance cruisers\, any sailor wanting to improve his/her sailing skills. This course is also the first step for crew members of long-distance and international offshore races\, long-distance cruisers\, or persons requiring the International Offshore certificate that complies with World Sailing guidelines for Personal Safety (World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations Appendix G compliant). This is a US Sailing sanctioned event. \nSafety at Sea: Offshore (In-person) \nTopics\nTypically the in-person course covers 8-10 topics listed in Appendix G of the OSRs\, from Giving Assistance\, Personal Safety Gear\, Care and Maintenance of Safety Gear\, Fire Safety\, Crew Overboard\, Cold Exposure\, Crew Health\, Marine Weather\, Heavy Weather\, Storm Sails\, and Reefing\, Damage Control\, Search and Rescue\, Signals\, Emergency Communications\, and Life Rafts. \nModerator: Mark Lenci\nMark is a retired US Navy Captain. His Navy career was primarily in attack submarines and he commanded USS Houston (SSN 713). Mark sails primarily in New England and the Canadian Maritimes and has cruised in various areas around the world. He holds various professional certifications including a USCG 100T Masters License and the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean certificate of competence. Mark has presented at multiple Safety at Sea Courses and is considered one of the best at sharing his leadership and seamanship insights. \nTickets\nTickets are $195 and include lunch.
